Maple Grove Fire Explorers - Post 3777

Explorer RIT Drill   Explorer Live Fire Explorer Ladders

Who We Are:
Fire Exploring is a job-shadowing program through the Boy Scouts of America/Learning for Life for youths ages 15 to 21 who wish to learn more about the fire service. Explorer Post 3777 is operated by the Maple Grove Fire Department and has been existence since 1977, two years after the fire department was established. Fire Explorers are an integral part of Maple Grove Fire-Rescue. A program priority is to recruit eligible explorers for the fire department to be paid on-call firefighters. Currently, our 93 member department boasts eight former Explorers on the roster including a chief officer.

What We Do:
Emphasis at meetings includes a modified Firefighter I course. In addition to becoming CPR certified, Explorers also have the opportunity to attend First Responder and Hazardous Materials training. Following orientation and a probationary period, Explorers may take a competency exam which enables them to attend regular fire department training sessions at their assigned fire station. At this point the Explorer gains familiarity with their station crew and apparatus. Following a practical exam, they are issued a pager and can respond to emergency incidents with their assigned station, and acquire valuable field experience.

When We Meet:
Fire Explorer meetings typically take place on the 2nd and 4th Sunday evenings of each month, but sometimes are moved due to holidays and special events.

Special Recognition:
The Fire Explorers received the “Post of the Year” Award for their dedication to excellence in 2008. We maintain an extensive roster and still operate the largest Fire Explorer Post in the state of Minnesota. Notable achievements include assisting in organizing and participating in the inaugural Minnesota Fire Exploring Conference, participating in the 10th annual Governor’s Fire Prevention Day at the State Fair, and assisting the Brooklyn Park Fire Department in starting a Fire Explorer Post of their own.

Explorer Captain Ryan Gross received an Explorer National Leadership Award for his excellence in leadership and his dedication to the Explorer Post in 2008. Post Advisor Chris Baker received an Advisor National Leadership Award for his dedication to Exploring with both the Maple Grove Fire Explorers and Fire Exploring on a statewide scale in 2008.
