The Assessing Department annually establishes the estimated market value for over 23,000 parcels for property tax purposes, classifies property according to use, and oversees the appeal process.
New construction properties are viewed the year they are built. Existing properties are viewed at least once every five years as required by Minnesota law. This ensures property records are accurate and valuations have been estimated fairly. The estimated market value must be in compliance with the standards established by Minnesota Department of Revenue and Minnesota statutes.
